The Writer's Blox Project Update

PrettyWeirdPal Progress

Hi one and all! To echo everyone who has ever set foot into a comic convention, Heroes Con was the best! Of course, I personally had an excellent experience as a result of such a wonderful response from other convention goers to the “idea box” we’d placed out on the PrettyWeird table. That and the fact I added some most important issues to one of my own comic collections made the show one of a kind for me. So, thanks to all of you!
Now, undoubtedly, you want to know about the story that we’ll be formulating from the numerous prompts we received from our much appreciated passersby.
First off, let me say that these suggestions have been a lot of fun to read, very entertaining, and if I can manage to take all the coolness that was crammed into that cigar box and recycle it into a story… it should be one heckuva a book to read!
Currently, I am focusing on creating a literary universe where everyone’s suggestions can coexist. I’m not sure how much of the story I want to reveal along the way as we’re constructing it, so for now I’m going to keep my cards to my chest and just tell you that what I have seen developed out of your combined thoughts is a dimension (or series of dimensions) with a backstory that I’ve NEVER read in any other tale. That is code for “y’all done good”!
I have begun working with a prelude and hope to have a first draft of that introductory portion finished up by next week. That said, I better let you go (effectively, also letting me go) so I can get to work! Thanks again for all your time, energy, thoughts, and trust. We look forward to seeing what we can produce together!
Writing for you,
Mark Szasz

Heroes Con Interview

A local group of fun comic book nerds known as "Nerds of the Apocalypse" interviewed us while we were attending Heroes Con the other week. They conducted an impromptu vlog in their hotel room and asked us a bunch of questions about our artwork and Comic Con bingo game.

Heroes Con 2013: Post Mortem

Heroes Con was just this last week. We were able to attend with an awesome writer friend of ours Mark Szaz, and with a bunch of other uber talented artists. We all had a blast.
We thought we would share some of the commission sketches and a few other pictures from the event.

A huge shootout to everyone who stopped by our Pretty Weird booth and spoke to us. It was great to talk to so many people who loved the comic medium. Thank you so much for your kind words and for your support of the arts.

For those of you who contributed to the "Idea Box", we'll be posting a tab on this website and our prettyweirdart.blogspot.com site with a status report on the project. We will update the pages as the project continues to evolve. We had well over 80 people contribute their ideas to the project, and some of the ideas are incredibly entertaining. We even enjoyed the guy's who contributed drawings of large phallic symbols. We know your hearts were in the right place...

Anyways, let's get on with the pics from the show!

This was an awesome commission! The guy who asked me to draw this Joe handed me his own sketchbook that held sketches by the original artists that worked on the Gijoe comics in the 80's!

Here's the artwork to prove it! My cartoon Joe is in the same book as Ron's version of the Joe! My artwork is just pages away from the guy who drew the Joe Comics in the 80's! Geekgasm!

Painting Study Sketches and Fantasy Character Sketches

I've been working on some fantasy characters and I thought I'd share one or two of them. Rachel and I have been busy getting things squared away for Heroes Con. We've just gotten to the point where we can get back on track with our comic book work. I'm in the middle of inking my first issue of Skull Gun Bunny and Rachel's finished the script for the second issue of Death Elf And Woose. I'm also posting a few of Rachel's sketches that are associated with her new painting.

Pretty Weird Banner Art & Facebook Page

I've been working on our banner for Heroes Con. I'll probably tweak it a little bit before sending it to the printers, but this is pretty close to the final product. I also added a facebook page for our company, so if you'd like a slightly more direct connection to our work, feel free to check out our facebook page. It's a combination of my freelance business and our Pretty Weird Artwork.

Comic Convention Bingo Game

Rachel and I recently decided that we would make an illustrated bingo game for Heroes Con.
Rachel wrote up a couple of gags and I illustrated them. We based the humor
off of some extreme cosplayer cases that we witnessed at past Dragon Cons.

Just for fun...Honest. We're not total douche bags. We just pretend to be...

Free Comic Book Day, Postmortem

A quick word of thanks to Heroes and Dragons, the fellow SC artists, and all the comic-book fans that came by our table today. You guys made the day a blast!

Anyone that made it onto Rachel's list for sketches, you'll be getting your sketches later this week. We will shoot you your artwork over email. Rachel's already in the studio fastidiously working away at it as I type.

Free Comic Book Day and Pretty Weird Art

Off to free comic book day. We made a special free comic to celebrate our first "mini-con". Excited to show it off and hand it out to 20 lucky comic book patrons...

My wife and I have created a small business LLC so that we can begin to sell our artwork at the local comic conventions and art fairs. Our business is called "Pretty Weird", the name of this website. Today will be our inaugural excursion into the general art and comic book worlds. Wish us luck.

And just so you don't think we're some random flash in the pan start up company, I'm also posting a link to my professional site that I've been posting my illustration and graphic design to for the last 5 years.
