Art Projects updates and New Art!

May - 2015

I thought I’d share with everyone what Pretty Weird Art will be up to for the month of May.

Con Events
We will be at the Free Comic Book Day festivities at Punk Monkey Comics in Columbia SC on May 2nd from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will be doing free sketches for those in attendance and we’ll have our most recent books and posters for sale.

Next weekend we’ll be driving down to SpartanCon which will be a small but fun publishing shindig that the Spartanburg Public Library is hosting. We’ll be there from 1 - 5 p.m. on May 9th.

The end of the month we’ll be attending Awesome Con in Washington D.C. That’s going to be an epic show of epic epicness. We will be there from May 29 - 21.

Works in Progress: Comics
Here’s the rundown of what Rachel and I are currently working on as far as our books are concerned…

  • The third issue of Skull Gun Bunny is inked and in the process of being colored.
  • The 2nd issue of Churchology is 70% inked. I hope to start posting pages from it by the months end.
  • The 2nd issue of Death Elf and Woose Daily comics is going to be a coloring/ activity book. The artwork’s all done and we just need the time to layout the pages for the printers.

Other things in the works:
I’m slowly but surely putting together an online store so that our comics, commissions, and posters can be purchased easily online.
Rachel and I are also working on two Death Elf and Woose and Skull Gun Bunny tee shirts!!!
Rachel’s working on more Asian influenced pin up artwork.

Here's some snapshots of our most recent completed projects!!!

Some Samurai tattoo designs I've been working on.

Just received posters of these two illustrations in the mail and they are EPIC!!!

Rachel's completed some pretty sweet pin ups over the last month!!! We just ordered post cards with the Mermaid one on them!

Samurai Drawing

Rachel's latest Samurai sketch from the last art show! She cranked this out over the weekend. It's pretty sweet.

Death Elf and Woose promotional poster

Finally finished the promotional poster for Death Elf and Woose! It's taken a few weeks to get it together but it's finally done. Hope to have a few of these for sale and to decorate our booth at upcoming art shows.

Creepy Cat Daily Comics

A few Creepy Cat comics that I did over my lunch breaks this last week...

Aliens Poster Process

The Final Aliens Poster
The poster ended up being more busy than I wanted it to look, but I'm liking how the colors came out on this poster.

In process coloring.

Starting the Coloring Process

I drew all the human characters from the old Kenner's toy line from the 90's. I drew them all separately but never had the time to color them. I decided to put them all together and color them as a whole, massive poster.

Single Page Comics

A few things of note tonight. We just reserved our tables for Heroes Con in Charlotte and for the Baltimore Comic Con. I've heard that Baltimore is a pretty good show for comics so we've decided to try out the show this year.
Our other bit of news is that I've finished the script for the 2nd issue of Churchology. It's 17 pages right now, but when everything's drawn out, I expect the magazine to be about 40 pages in length. This time instead of talking about the churches I grew up in, it's going to focus on explaining what its like to attend Bible College and what my experiences were like there.
One other thing to note is that the SC Comic Con this weekend in Greenville, SC will be the first place we'll have the first issue of of Churchology for sale as well as the first ever sketch magazine of Pretty Weird Art's monster sketches.

Here's a few single page comics that I made over the last day or two.

Colored Pencil Sketches: Unicorn Comic and Transformer

I broke out the colored pencils and markers over the weekend. I drew a little comic and colored my transformer sketch from earlier in the week.

Judge Dredd Drawing

I love drawing Judge Dredd…I just can't help myself. His character design appeals to me on a weird subconscious level.

Just finished this puppy over the weekend. The original 18x22 drawing will be with us this next weekend when we attend the SC Comic Con in Greenville, SC on the 21st and 22nd.

Comics!

We just got in our last two comics!!!!
That makes a total of 7 comics that we've completed over the last two years.
That's pretty good when you factor in the fact that we both work 80 hours a week at day jobs other than our comic creating. Can't wait to sell out of these puppies.

These were the last two issues that came in today. The first Pretty Weird sketchbook and the first issue of Churchology. You have to forgive the picture quality. I snapped a quick shot of everything with my cell phone and my hand wasn't holding very still because I was excited.

Aliens Poster: Work in progress

Making progress on the Aliens poster…slow but sure….
Trying to lay out the colors before getting into the nitty gritty details.

Captain's Comics Expo: Post Mortem

Pretty Weird Art set up shop at the Captain's Comic Expo in Charleston, SC this last Saturday and Sunday. It was our first show of the year and we were pretty proud of our table. I feel like our table came together much better than last year. If you check out the pics below you'll see that we've got four of our comics on display as well as prints, posters, and original artwork all for sale.

Our buddy Haisten assisted us over the weekend at the table. We got him to snap a quick pic before the show began.

A local comic book buddy of mine was at the show. Since his birthday was coming up, I drew a quick sketch of his favorite character when the crowd died down on Sunday.

One of my souvenirs from this last week. I found this little transformer dude at a local antique store collecting dust, so I freed him from his dusty domain and decided to immortalize him in a piece of artwork. He's so happy right now if you listen closely, you'll hear him purr.

I was really happy to get the chance to do a commissioned piece featuring the original Daredevil.

I also found time to sketch out War Machine...

…And Iron Man during Saturday.

Rachel cranked out this sketch on Sunday. The farting hearts was my idea :)

Rachel ask finished up this awesome fairy drawing over the weekend. Love this thing!

That's pretty much it for the weekend summery. We've got SC Comic Con in two weeks. We'll have two more comics at that show. We'll have the first ever Pretty Weird Sketchbook for sale as well as the first issues of my Churchology series in print.

Churchology

I finally bit the bullet and sent Churchology to the printers. We'll be getting hard copies in a few weeks for our cons later this year.
