Magazine Illustration Project

Ethan spent the last month working on a fun illustration project that we decided to share with everybody. Ethan worked on this project during the month of May and it's awesome to finally have it in hand to show off.

Ethan's artwork even ended up on the marketing materials for the magazine

Skull Gun Bunny Preview

All of our projects right now fall into the "work in progress" category. That happens to be the disadvantage to being obsessive compulsive creative people, we have a gazillion things going all at the same time. While we put the finishing touches on some of our story projects, I thought that I would share a short preview of "Skull Gun Bunny". The first issue is a 40 page comic that tells the strange story of Jeff and Otto, two college-bound bunnies who encounter mechanized zombies and the embodiment of Death while shopping at the local supermarket. I'm in the process of coloring and lettering the comic. The pages I'm sharing below are the first 6 pages with the base colors applied. The story begins with Jeff and Otto journeying to the supermarket. Meanwhile, across town, some mechanized zombies are preparing for a kidnapping mission at that same supermarket.

Character Development and Design for "Skull Gun Bunny"
I thought that I'd also post the teaser that I make earlier in the year for Skull Gun Bunny. I've since revised the character designs and the story line, but I thought that I would post the artwork anyways.

Writer's Blox Project Update

Hello all! Time for another vox on Writer’s Blox!
I’m happy to say that so far the project is going along well. I’ve organized all the suggestions received a couple weeks ago by using a Trello account, a choice that has proven incredibly helpful in keeping track of the many spectacular content requests we received. That easily accessed pool has allowed me to get a better idea of how different ideas work together with each other and work together within the space of the story itself.
As of the moment, btw, I am shooting to take all 80 of your proposals and put them into one work. This will be a difficult task, but one which I believe will reap a great reward (and be fun even in as much as it will be challenging to carry out)!
Not only is there progress to report on puzzling together your collected thoughts, there is also something to be said for the writing itself. I’ve accumulated around five pages of first draft work, mostly regarding the introductory scenes of some of the work's major characters and initial setting. So, score for that!
I look forward to updating y’all as more progress asserts itself and I hope y’all have an awesome week! Cheers!
Writing for you,
Mark Szasz

The Memoirs of Ko Ko the Inappropriate Clown Comic Book Cover

Here it is! Ko Ko the Inappropriate Clown's first comic book cover! Rachel and Ethan are
working on the writing, penciling, and inking of this comic. Ethan is also getting close to finishing the first issue of Skull Gun Bunny. Once issue one of Skull Gun Bunny and Memoirs of Ko Ko are completed, the penciling process on issue two of Death Elf and Woose will begin with a vengeance. Rachel is working on some ultra-cool samurai related projects which we hope to post online sometime very soon!

Here are some sneak peeks at some more projects that are in the pipeline. I've been coloring the first issue of Skull Gun Bunny and I'm also working with Rachel Mongin on Pencilling and Inking some stories that will appear in the first issue of Ko Ko the Inappropriate Clown.

The Writer's Blox Project Update

PrettyWeirdPal Progress

Hi one and all! To echo everyone who has ever set foot into a comic convention, Heroes Con was the best! Of course, I personally had an excellent experience as a result of such a wonderful response from other convention goers to the “idea box” we’d placed out on the PrettyWeird table. That and the fact I added some most important issues to one of my own comic collections made the show one of a kind for me. So, thanks to all of you!
Now, undoubtedly, you want to know about the story that we’ll be formulating from the numerous prompts we received from our much appreciated passersby.
First off, let me say that these suggestions have been a lot of fun to read, very entertaining, and if I can manage to take all the coolness that was crammed into that cigar box and recycle it into a story… it should be one heckuva a book to read!
Currently, I am focusing on creating a literary universe where everyone’s suggestions can coexist. I’m not sure how much of the story I want to reveal along the way as we’re constructing it, so for now I’m going to keep my cards to my chest and just tell you that what I have seen developed out of your combined thoughts is a dimension (or series of dimensions) with a backstory that I’ve NEVER read in any other tale. That is code for “y’all done good”!
I have begun working with a prelude and hope to have a first draft of that introductory portion finished up by next week. That said, I better let you go (effectively, also letting me go) so I can get to work! Thanks again for all your time, energy, thoughts, and trust. We look forward to seeing what we can produce together!
Writing for you,
Mark Szasz

Heroes Con Interview

A local group of fun comic book nerds known as "Nerds of the Apocalypse" interviewed us while we were attending Heroes Con the other week. They conducted an impromptu vlog in their hotel room and asked us a bunch of questions about our artwork and Comic Con bingo game.

Heroes Con 2013: Post Mortem

Heroes Con was just this last week. We were able to attend with an awesome writer friend of ours Mark Szaz, and with a bunch of other uber talented artists. We all had a blast.
We thought we would share some of the commission sketches and a few other pictures from the event.

A huge shootout to everyone who stopped by our Pretty Weird booth and spoke to us. It was great to talk to so many people who loved the comic medium. Thank you so much for your kind words and for your support of the arts.

For those of you who contributed to the "Idea Box", we'll be posting a tab on this website and our prettyweirdart.blogspot.com site with a status report on the project. We will update the pages as the project continues to evolve. We had well over 80 people contribute their ideas to the project, and some of the ideas are incredibly entertaining. We even enjoyed the guy's who contributed drawings of large phallic symbols. We know your hearts were in the right place...

Anyways, let's get on with the pics from the show!

This was an awesome commission! The guy who asked me to draw this Joe handed me his own sketchbook that held sketches by the original artists that worked on the Gijoe comics in the 80's!

Here's the artwork to prove it! My cartoon Joe is in the same book as Ron's version of the Joe! My artwork is just pages away from the guy who drew the Joe Comics in the 80's! Geekgasm!
